James Chaddick; MLA, RLA, ASLA, CLARB
James (Jim) Chaddick has nearly 30 years of experience in landscape architecture, garden design, master planning and teaching. Before re-starting JCA in 2009, Jim had taught design studio and drafting at the UNLV School of Architecture from 1998 to 2018. Jim has taught in all three programs at the UNLV School of Architecture including architecture, interior architecture and design, and landscape architecture and planning.
Before his last stint at being a Visiting Professor at UNLV, Jim was deeply involved in the creation of Long Beach, CA’s RiverLink Project: a nine mile long greenway system with over 210 acres of associated parks, greenbelts and urban linkages. To date, the Long Beach RiverLink is one of the most successful parks and open space planning efforts in terms of public outreach, general acceptance, public funding and public visibility along the L.A. River basin. Plus, it changed the history of public parks planning on the L.A. River for the better. Since 2007, the Long Beach RiverLink has garnered over $47 Million in funding from many agencies and partners throughout southern California.
While a student at Cal Poly, Jim was a botanical volunteer at the Huntington Library and Gardens, in the Desert Collection, working closely with the legendary expert desert gardener Gary Lyons. Jim was also a botanical intern and landscape designer at the Las Vegas Valley Water District’s former Desert Demonstration Gardens and helped research, map and design the amenities for the Las Vegas Springs Preserve. He won the ASLA Award for Undergraduate Research for his initial designs for the Constructed Wetlands at the Las Vegas Springs Preserve.
Jim is expert in Mojave Desert, Great Basin and High Sierra landscape native planting design and revegetation. Jim has been involved in over 300 design, development and planning projects in Nevada, Arizona, California, Colorado and Utah.
